Originally announced in July 2021, more information about the upcoming Hakuoki OVA anime has been released, including release dates, cast and staff members, and theme song artists. The series, produced by Studio DEEN, will be comprised of three episodes. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

The returning staff members include Director Osamu Yamasaki, Animation Character Designer Atsuko Nakajima, and Composer Kou Otani. Teased in July, the OVA will feature one new character, Sakai Hyogo, who will be portrayed by Aoi Shouta. Voice actors from previous Hakuoki anime releases will be reprising their roles.
The opening theme song “Setsuna no Kodou” will be performed by Aiko Yoshioka. “Kenran -I’ll never forget you-,” the ending theme, will be performed by Maon Kurosaki. The latter previously provided the opening track for the first season of the Hakuoki anime.
Based on an otome video game series by Idea Factory, Hakuoki tells the story of Chizuru Yukimura, a girl travelling to Kyoto disguised a man to search for her missing father. Instead, she stumbles on a battle between the Shinsengumi and a horde of vampire-like creatures called the Furies.

OVA series are set to release on both Blu-ray and DVD on December 24, 2021, January 28, 2022, and February 25, 2022 respectively. For those located in Japan, the OVA will also be streamed exclusively on U-NEXT in advance, on November 13, 2021, December 11, 2021, and January 29, 2022.
