Japanese developer Cave has announced that it will be developing a new Touhou Project game. Details regarding the new game remain scarce. However, the project is scheduled to release sometime 2022. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
Cave has developed several titles within the same genre as Touhou Project titles. This has included the DonPachi series, which saw more than a handful of sequels and game releases. The most recent DonPachi game, DoDonPachi Resurrection, released in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Additionally, Cave will be developing the title under the IP of the Touhou Project games. As mentioned previously, the developer has experience within the “bullet hell shoot’em up” genre. That said, no further information regarding the project, including a title or concept, has been released. More information will come at a later date.
In June 2021, CFK and Frontier Aja announced that Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony will release on Nintendo Switch and PC. Unlike other Touhou related titles, this version draws direct inspiration from Castlevania. This includes its gameplay, which features side scrolling exploration through various environments. This title will arrive sometime in 2021. However, the game still does not have a specific release date.
A new Touhou Project related game is currently in development, with its platforms still unannounced. It will arrive sometime 2022.
