Monster Hunter Stories 2 Shows Off Nergigante and Avinia

The new Monster Hunter Stories 2 trailer is here. Continuing a trend from past presentations, the latest video introduced more familiar faces. This time, we’re seeing some additional people from the past game. Namely, Avinia and her Barioth, Frostfang, returned for Monster Hunter Stories 2, and Nergigante might be a threat. We also found out why some monsters are behaving violently.

The trailer begins with something of an explanation. We’ve known that the player’s particular Rathalos, the Razewing Ratha, is a potential hazard for a while. However, it turns out that it has a connection to the rage rays lights that are driving some monsters mad. They, in turn, become violent. It also appeared right when regular Rathalos are starting to disappear. At one point, Ena says she isn’t sure if the player’s avatar can handle and be trusted with Razewing Ratha. However, the Wyverian Ol’ Dede says to trust Ratha.

After bringing up these points, there are teases about more returning characters. We see Navirou, of course. Avinia’s return with her Barioth, Frostfang, is confirmed as well. She’ll appear as a Battle Buddy ally. The video also ends with a confirmation that Nergigante, which debuted in Monster Hunter World, will appear in the game.

The new Monster Hunter Stories 2 trailer begins at the 30:50 mark of the stream below, with Avinia and Nergigante appearing shortly after.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will come to the Nintendo Switch and PC on July 9, 2021.
