Resident Evil Village has shipped three million units worldwide. Capcom released a statement, sharing sales numbers for the most recent installment in the series. Resident Evil Village has effectively shipped three million copies only five days after its released. Additionally, the statement goes on to mention the sales numbers of Resident Evil 7. Comparatively, Resident Evil Village has already shipped 3 million units worldwide. In comparison Resident Evil 7 shipped 8.5 million units between January 2017 and December 30, 2020. According to Twitter user Dusk Golem, Resident Evil 7 had sold roughly the same amount within the same timeframe, shipping roughly 2.5 million units. Resident Evil 2, however, shipped 3 million units within its first week of release.
Capcom’s statement goes on to mention that it will continue its “initiative to expand the brand,” through the release of extended media within the Resident Evil universe and brand. This includes the release of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, and upcoming CGI series set to release through the streaming service Netflix.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will star Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, with the series expected to release in July 2021. The series will take place in 2006, set after the events of Resident Evil 4. How Claire and Leon once again cross paths will be detailed through the series itself.
