Genshin Impact KFC crossover merchandise just got more limited. Giveaways for the crossover in China were shut down after participating KFC locations were mobbed by crowds eager to claim the items. Many fans lined up all night awaiting the beginning of the event. Police were present in some instances to aid with crowd control. Despite this, the size of the gatherings in Shanghai and Hangzhou threatened to violate local precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. KFC announced the suspension of the giveaway in those locations via Weibo, a Chinese social network. [Thanks, Destructoid].
Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad tweeted photos of the Genshin Impact KFC event at several locations.
These people were waiting all night for the KFC x Genshin Impact collab in China. This location is Nanjing.
Fans can get a special Genshin Impact branded meal, in game content and an exclusive KFC branded pin / badge.

The photos highlight the size of the crowds at KFC, the presence of police and the event’s gimmick, which asked that fans say the phrase, “Meet in another world, enjoy delicious food!” at the counter to receive exclusive promotional pins featuring Diluc and Noelle. The stores were also redecorated to feature Genshin Impact characters, some of whom were dressed in special KFC costume for the occasion.
Despite the suspension of the Genshin Impact KFC giveaway’s physical component, digital in-game rewards will be distributed to players later into the year. Those rewards include wind glider wings done in KFC’s red-and-white colors, and sticker sets to use as emotes. Teasers for the game’s 1.4 update also hinted that players outside China would get a chance to receive the goods, somehow.
Genshin Impact is available on PS4, Android, iOS, and PC. A Nintendo Switch port is in the works.
