Members from the Abyss Horizon team have sent out a Server Shutdown Notice to its players. According to the notice, the developers are removing the game’s “recharge feature” on January 19, 2021 and shutting down the servers entirely on February 26, 2020. During the interim, players will receive “rich daily gifts.”
Abyss Horizon is a game in which players collect and battle warships, but, unlike most warships, these vessels are also anthropomorphic anime women. Illusion Studios’ English version of Abyss Horizon launched December 25, 2019. A Japanese version of the game has been available since 2018.
The notice goes on to thank players for their “support and love for the game in the 395 days!” It acknowledges that the game experienced a wealth of bugs and difficulties, as well, before ending with the claim that “everything will be better!”
Server shutdowns for other titles have been in the news recently, too. Level-5’s free-to-play mobile game, Inazuma Eleven SD shut down on December 1, 2020 after eleven months of service. Similarly, Seven’s Code’s services came to an end on October 28, 2020, approximately a year after its launch on October 21, 2019. Over the course of the last three months, we’ve also seen shutdowns for the Wii U version of Super Mario Maker, Monster Hunter Explore, and Sengoko Basara Battle Party.
