The upcoming Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers 5.4 patch will have the largest amount of content to date. This includes the continuation of the main story quest, the finale of the Eden raids, and the appearance of the Emerald Weapon. With all of that content on the way, I have written a guide that will help those returning to the game after a short or long break to catch up before the Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers 5.4 patch hits on December 8, 2020.
To unlock the first series of Eden raid, Eden’s Gate, you need to travel to the Crystarium and speak to the Anxious Guard. The quest will be titled “In the Middle of Nowhere.” In order to access this series of raids, you will need to complete the Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers 5.0 main story quest titled “Shadowbringers.”
You can unlock the second Eden raid, Eden’s Verse, by completing Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers 5.2 main scenario quests which end with the quest “Echoes of a Fallen Star” and by completing the first set of Eden raids. Once you have completed those series of quests, you can then travel to Amh Araeng to speak with Yalfort. That quest will be called “Away with the Faerie.”
In order to access the raid, you will need a minimum item level of 455. However, since we’re heading into patch 5.4, the market board has plenty of item level 480 gear (Neo Ishgardian) for players to grab relatively cheaply. These items can also be augmented in Eulmore to raise their item level to 490. Players will need to trade in the piece of gear they would like to augment and two Undersea Rain to receive Augmented Neo-Ishgardian gear.
If you’re low on gil, you can head to Eulemore to exchange tomestones for the highest item level gear currently available to you. You may need to grind for the appropriate tomestones in order to redeem enough gear, so keep that in mind going forward. Another option is running the most recent YorHa Dark Apocalypse raid, “The Puppet’s Bunker.” Gear that drops from The Puppet’s Bunker is item level 490, which will give returns a great boost to their item level if they obtain even one piece of gear.
Other avenues to gearing up in preparation for the Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers 5.4 patch include catching up with dungeons and rolling on gear to bump your item level. I would definitely suggest picking up the crafted gear and accessories, however, and doing the “Save the Queen Relic Weapon” quest for an easy 485 weapon.
The Save the Queen Relic Weapon quest can be started in Kugane by speaking to the NPC at X:26.8 Y:16.4. From there, it will unlock the option to head to Gangos and you can continue the questline to grab your Relic Weapon. For returners, I promise this series of quests is nowhere as bad as light grinding, and it really is as simple as it sounds. The only caveat is that you must have completed the “Return to Ivalice” questline in order for the initial quest, “Dramatis Personae,” to pop up.
It is suggested that you continue further and unlock the Bojzan Frontline series of quests, just to get ahead for patch 5.45 where the Save the Queen Relic Weapon will continue. This also provides players with another avenue to level their jobs outside of leveling roulettes. As long as a job is level 71, players can enter the frontline to level that specific job and test out all obtainable skills.
To access the Emerald Weapon encounter, players will need to continue “The Sorrow of Werlyt” questline. To begin the questline, players must have completed the main story quest “Old Enemies, New Threats.” From there you can then head to The Lochs and speak to the Resistance Officer to pick up the quest “Ruby Doomsday.” After completing Ruby Doomsday, you will then have access to “Sleep Now in Sapphire.”
Final Fantasy XIV is immediately available for PlayStation 4 and PC. The Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers 5.4 patch will arrive on December 8, 2020.
