Nippon Columbia will release the Mother Music Revisited album on January 27, 2021. It will be available physically via both CD and vinyl editions. Each edition will be sold at 3,000 yen and 5,500 yen, respectively. Note that all prices listed here are still subject to taxes in Japan. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
This announcement was first made by Mother‘s composer Keiichi Suzuki when he held his own live concert to mark the 50th anniversary of his musical career on November 28, 2020. This album will contain 10 self-covers of Mother BGMs, all re-arranged by Suzuki himself.
A Deluxe CD edition of the album will also be sold for 5,000 yen. It will exclusively add a second disc that contains the original soundtrack of Mother with the Famicom sound source. This original sound source has also been available in a vinyl format released in Japan on December 25, 2019. Another vinyl soundtrack record for the sequel—known in the West as Earthbound—will be available in Japan on February 10, 2021.
Mother Music Revisited will feature music from Mother, Nintendo’s classic RPG that was released for Famicom in Japan in July 1989. The game is also known in the West as EarthBound Beginnings, where it was released worldwide on the Wii U Virtual Console in June 2015.
