Sega released a price-revised edition of Valkyria Chronicles 4 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan on October 22, 2020. But hidden behind this subtle announcement is the fact that “A United Front With Squad 7”, a DLC scenario that adds characters from the firstĀ Valkyria Chronicles, was just made available publicly for Japanese PlayStation 4 users.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 was first released for the PlayStation 4 in Japan on March 21, 2018. Back then, Sega also sold a limited 10th Anniversary Memorial Pack with “A United Front With Squad 7” as one of its exclusive contents.
Later on, the game was released worldwide for not only the PlayStation 4, but also the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC on September 25, 2018. Despite being available for free with the Memoirs from Battle Premium Edition, “A United Front With Squad 7” was eventually made available for purchase just like other DLC scenarios. The Nintendo Switch version was also released later in Japan on September 27, 2018.
That’s where the Japanese PS4 version was set apart from other regions and platforms. The Japanese Switch release saw “A United Front With Squad 7” included in the game’s Additional Content Pack, while the PS4 version didn’t. Even after the PC version was upgraded to the Complete Edition with all DLC included for free in November 2019, the Squad 7 DLC was never made available on the Japanese PlayStation Store, until now.
With the release of the price-revised edition on October 22, 2020, Sega finally added “A United Front With Squad 7” into the PS4 version’s Season Pass and Additional Story Set in Japan. Those who played the Japanese PS4 version and bought the Season Pass, but didn’t buy the pricey limited edition, can now download the scenario and add Alicia, Rosie, Largo, the Grenadier Isara, and Welkin with his Edelweiss tank into the roster.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 is immediately available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC worldwide, with an Xbox One version exclusively available in the West.
