Publisher and developer Imagineer announced that its Switch-exclusive exergaming title, Fitness Boxing, hit a new milestone of 1 million units in worldwide shipments and digital sales.
Fitness Boxing was developed by former Rocket Company members currently in Imagineer. The game first released in December 2018, and since then, it’s been a hit across all demographics from male and female players of all ages.
More recently, Fitness Boxing saw a spike in sales thanks to the demand for not just gaming during the global pandemic but also a way to exercise at home. The first figures announced for the game was 300,000 in April 2019. The game moved over double the amount with 700,000 units by April 2020. The company attributes TV commercials and celebrities talking about it on social media that helped spread the word-of-mouth.
After maintaining its success overseas, Fitness Boxing reached 800,000 in May 2020 followed by the 900,000 milestone in July 2020. With that being said, the game has moved around 300,000 units in the past four months.
It’s also worth noting that we can also attribute the success of Fitness Boxing to the low stock of Ring Fit Adventure. Due to the difficulty of acquiring a copy of Ring Fit Adventure in countries such as Japan, people have gravitated towards Fitness Boxing as another exergaming option for the Nintendo Switch.
