The Japanese Nintendo Direct mini featured Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin today, complete with a November 12, 2020 release date in Japan.
Check out the trailer below:
While there isn’t too much new in terms of info, we do get a closer look at the sidescrolling action gameplay side, including how Sakuna will have to use her divine silk robe to grapple around, or even use it to grapple onto enemies and swerve around to their backside. Using this, you can chain together flashy combos or find an opening to attack against the barrage of oni festering the island.
Apart from the battle aspect, we also get a look at rice-growing, including how you’ll need to select and prepare rice grains to plant, plow the land, plant the seeds, harvest the rice, remove the grain kernels, and mill the grains. As you progress along the game, you can create tools that improve your efficiency in these tasks, and you can even raise animals to help with tasks. All this feeds back into the sidescrolling action, as Sakuna will get stronger depending on the quality of the rice as she is a harvest goddess.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin will come to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC in Japan on November 12, 2020, and “later in 2020” in the West. The Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 retail copies will be available through XSEED Games and other companies. Check out the physical edition in the West here.
