PlayStation Extended Play Sale Cuts Prices on DLC and Season Passes

Extended Play Sale

The new PlayStation Store sale has an unexpected focus. The new Extended Play Sale is putting the spotlight on a stranger side of increasingly frequent game sales. The era of digital distribution has made game sales very common these days. Patient players often find that games will rarely stay at their full price for long on the main console and PC storefronts.

One odd wrinkle, though is that while the “base” games will often drop in price quite quickly, their myriad add-ons, like content packs, expansions, and season passes, often hold firm. It’s distressingly common to pick up a game for cheap on sale, only to find that a desirable piece of content asks another purchase, sometimes for more than what you originally paid for the main game!

That’s something the Extended Play Sale aims to remedy–at least on a limited basis. The majority of items in the sale are DLC or season passes for various titles or “Gold Edition” releases that combine the base game and post-launch content. Some notable offers include the Season Pass for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown (with three playable jets and three large story missions), the Gold Edition of the already-quite-large Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, a combined DLC bundle for Valkyria Chronicles 4, Road to Boruto expansion for Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, and 75% off the XCOM 2 Collection, which normally goes for nearly $100.
