Another event has announced an online counterpart following its physical cancellation. The physical San Diego Comic Con 2020 was canceled back on April 17, 2020, the first time that has ever happened, with a commitment to hold SDCC 2021 between July 22-25, 2021 in San Diego, California. Now Comic Con at Home has been announced for 2020 via Twitter.
As is common with these sorts of announcements, the organizers haven’t explained exactly what will go into this online event just yet. Only a preview trailer noting it will be accessible for everyone has been released.
However, there are some hints as to how this Comic Con at Home could go. A WonderCon at Home experience has been sharing panels online as part of a WonderCon Wednesday initiative. A Power Rangers panel was held on April 30, 2020, for example, as well as one from Kodansha USA recommending different manga on May 9, 2020.
This is one of many other physical events with digital events coming up to make up for pandemic cancellations. The Tokyo Game Show 2020 will have some sort of online presence. Evo 2020 will hold competitions online this year. Gamescom 2020 will also have digital activities in lieu of a physical event.
