The Korean Ratings Board leak was accurate. It seems the SNK Gals Fighters Switch port is indeed on the way. The official SNK Global Twitter account confirmed two anniversary projects to celebrate the Neo Geo’s 30th anniversary. One is a SNK Gals’ Fighters port for unspecified platforms. The other is a confirmation that more Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection news is on the way.
SNK Gals’ Fighter is a Neo Geo Pocket Color game from 2000, so it is celebrating its 20th birthday this year. It involves an array of Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters, The Last Blade, and Samurai Shodown characters all coming together to fight in a tournament for a relic that will grant them any wish. It’s quite a silly sort of game, with Akari Ichijou, Athena Asamiya, Leona Heidern, Mai Shiranui, Nakoruru, Shermie, Shiki, Whip, Yuki Kushinada, and Yuri Sakazaki all having wishes that range from Athena hating her new hair cut and wanting it to grow out and Shermie wanting a hamster cage. SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is considered its spiritual successor, right down to antagonist Miss X appearing in it.
Here’s the tweet announcing the port. Since there is the Korean rating, a SNK Gals Fighters’ Switch version seems plausible.
It’s been 30 years since the #NEOGEO first launched on April 26th, 1990!
In celebration, we are proud to announce SNK GALS’ FIGHTERS will be available to play on April 29th (PDT)! Also, more info on the SAMSHO NEOGEO COLLECTION is coming soon–so stay tuned for more updates!#SNK pic.twitter.com/2ZEaRXRcsT
