A look at Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ portable events

msds.jpgThe Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is on shelves, but a DS version with different content is coming out too. The handheld version gets two unique official Olympic events: 10m Platform Diving and Cycling. Sega is also adding five fantasy rooted Dream Events specifically for the DS. They are: Dream Basketball, Dream Boxing, Dream Canoe, Dream Long Jump and Dream Skeet Shooting. The downside is the DS version only has 16 official Olympic events compared to 20 in the console release. I also fear that the novelty of seeing Mario & Sonic together in a game will wear off by the time this comes out in “early 2008”. By then everyone who wants to play a face off with Mario and Sonic would have already done so in the Wii game or Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

Update: Sega sent over an e-mail with a more specific release date. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games comes out on January 22 in North America.
