Mattel will be creating a new line of Minecraft figures in late April 2020. These can be scanned on your phone and used to boost your in-game performance to make playing a bit easier. Of course, while the game is free-to-play, the figures will cost actual money. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
Minecraft Earth is a collaborative AR game where you create your own structures in the real world. Enemies, including unique variants, can also appear. There will be two lines of Minecraft Earth figures: Boost Minis and standard Minis. Mattel plans to have twenty different Boost Minis available when the series launches. The minifigures are done in Minecraft’s blocky 8-bit style and look like real-life, 3D versions of the in-game assets and characters. The “Boost” line of mini-figures will be packages as blind boxes, meaning you won’t know what you get until you open it. They’re priced at ¥500 (~$4.65) in Japan. The other series of mini-figures include various creatures that appear in game and will retail for ¥700 (~$6.50). These will also be blind boxes.
Mattel’s “Boost” line of Minecraft Earth figures will work as boost items that can shorten crafting times and help players earn more experience points. They’re quite simple to use. First, you’ll just need to open access the mini-figure page in-app. Then, you’ll need to be bring the figure close to your tablet or smartphone. After that, select the function you want, and then you’re all set! Up to five mini-figures can be active at the same time.
Here’s a look at some of the figures:
Minecraft Earth is available on Android and Apple iOS devices.
