If you love some of that brutal XCOM strategy action and haven’t had enough in your diet lately, here’s some news you’ll want to pay attention to. While 2K is dropping the previous game and much of its DLC content on the Nintendo Switch in May 2020, a surprise announcement revealed a brand new entry in the series. It’s set to come out in just a few days. XCOM: Chimera Squad, a new stand-alone entry set in the same storyline-slash-world as the past two, is coming to the PC on April 24, 2020.
Check out the reveal trailer, which was dropped on the official XCOM YouTube channel:
XCOM: Chimera Squad is set five years after XCOM 2, and it’s a budget-friendly release at $19.99. However, if you pick it up early, it’ll be a whopping 50% off at launch. With a comic book-like visual style, smaller scale and price, it seems like a spin-off kind of experience on paper. Yet, it’s a continuation of the story and features several core gameplay differences.
To that end, a gameplay overview trailer was also released, showing off what’s different here:
The biggest changes appear to be related to a battle’s pace, with new systems informing turn order, character death, and starting positioning. Check out the official website for more details.
