While the PlayStation Blog’s reveal of the PlayStation 5 Controller made a big deal out of its built-in microphone array, it really mention what people might do if they prefer more traditional headsets. Fortunately, a Sony employee offered a little insight on Twitter after the announcement. There will be a built-in DualSense headphone jack available. [Thanks, Push Square!]
Sony’s PlayStation Product Manager Toshimasa Aoki confirmed the feature on Twitter on April 7, 2020. After sharing the reveal, someone asked if there would be a DualSense headphone jack. (A valid question, as the first three pictures of the PlayStation 5 controller didn’t show the base of the unit where the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 has its headphone jack. Aoki said that it would have it.
Still have an audio jack so you can plug in your own headsets like DS4

As a reminder, the DualSense controller includes a new kind of audio option. A microphone array is built into it. (Think of it as being like a laptop where a mic is built into it, so if you use video chatting you don’t have to have a headset.) The PlayStation Blog reveal did mention headsets would be compatible, but since it wasn’t easy to see if a headphone jack was involved, people might have been forgiven for wondering if it was perhaps a bluetooth-only situation.
The PlayStation 5 and its DualSense controller are still expected to launch before 2020 ends.
