Puyo Puyo Sun 64, the Nintendo 64 port of the third numbered title in the Puyo Puyo series, has been fully translated into English by fans. As you might expect from the series, the game is a pure puzzle game with a focus on facing off against AI opponents and other players.
In the plot of this title, Dark Prince (translated as Satan in this fan translation) uses global warming to turn the land into a tropical paradise hoping to score some women. After finding this out, Arle goes through the land to face off against Dark Prince, and facing off many other challengers along the way. Depending on whether you take Arle or Schezo’s route, she either wins or loses to Schezo outside Dark Prince’s castle, with the winner stopping him.
The game mechanics of this title are somewhat different, as they involve new Sun pieces that are dropped into random columns by clearing Nuisance Puyo. When cleared, the Sun Puyo boosts the number of Nuisance Puyo the opponent receives. While the rule isn’t standard to how Puyo Puyo is mostly played (Puyo Puyo Tsu rules), the rule has made its way back into several compilation or anniversary games, most recently being Puyo Puyo Chronicle on Nintendo 3DS.
