One of Nigoro’s classic flash games has been preserved on mobile devices. People can now get Rose and Camellia on Android and Apple iOS devices. Room6 has ported the game. It is available on Google Play worldwide, while the App Store version is currently available in Japan. This comes after a Siliconera interview with Nigoro’s Takumi Naramura, where he confirmed the mobile version of the game was in development. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
The good news is, people who grab the mobile version of Rose and Camellia will have no trouble playing it. It supports multiple languages, including English, French, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
Rose and Camellia relies completely on touch controls. When it is Rose’s turn to slap one of her opponents, you swipe toward your opponent. When your foe is about to slap you, you swipe away from them. As always, you must watch the gauge at the top of the screen to determine the strength of your slap.
In Rose and Camellia, players follow Reiko, who married Shunsuke Tsubakikoji. However, he died and the women in his family are taking issue with her because they are noble, she is not, and she married the family’s eldest son. So Reiko proves herself the only way she knows how, which is by slapping her way to the head of the family to prove her worth.
While the game is available everywhere, there might be issues people experience. For example, the loading screen wasn’t working properly when I confirmed its availability, so I suddenly was in the midst of a match against Saori with no warning. In addition, it seemed to have difficulty gauging inputs.
Rose and Camellia is available in browsers on PCs and for Android and Apple iOS devices. The browser-based version will no longer be playable on December 31, 2020, when Flash Player support ends.
