Paramount has a pleasant surprise for everyone who will find themselves at home over the next few weeks. Sonic the Hedgehog is racing to certain storefronts early. People will be able to get the digital Sonic movie copy from retailers like Amazon and Apple TV on March 31, 2020.
This only applies to the digital Sonic movie copies. If someone wants to rent it or get a physical Blu-ray or DVD, they will have to wait until the official launch on May 19, 2020. However, the content available should be nearly identical.
In the press release revealing the early digital Sonic Movie launch, Paramount confirmed some special bonuses will be available on it and Blu-ray copies. You’ll have optional commentary from Ben Schwartz, who voiced Sonic, and Jeff Fowler, the director. There will be two Jim Carrey specials, with one going over Sonic the Hedgehog and the other about being Dr. Robotnik. There’ll be a background documentary called The Blue Blur: Origins of Sonic. Schwartz will take people around the set. There will be an Around the World in 80 Seconds feature. Plus, there will the Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Yachty, & Sueco the Child “Speed Me Up” video and different blooper and deleted scene outtakes. Some of these features will apparently only be available through some retailers for digital copies, so keep that in mind when shopping.
Sonic the Hedgehog will be available digitally on March 31, 2020, with physical copies and digital rentals coming on May 19, 2020. As a reminder, a special Sonic presentation, to replace the missed SXSW panel, will appear in April 2020.
