It’s been a while since we’ve heard about Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, the 2D sidescrolling game featuring Deedlit that was announced for Record of Lodoss War‘s 30th anniversary. However, Kadokawa released a new trailer for its upcoming release via Steam Early Access on March 13, 2020.
Rather than being a simple stage-based sidescroller, Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth has been revealed to be a Metroidvania title. Deedlit will wander around the Wonder Labyrinth and gain new weapons, skills, and upgrades.
Originally, Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth was only announced as being developed by team ladybug, the developer of Shin Megami Tensei: Synchronicity Prologue and Touhou Luna Nights, but this trailer also reveals that Why so serious?, the developer of 2D sprite-based action game Gensokyo Night Festival, is also working on this title.
According to Playism, who’s publishing Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, this game will fill in the gaps from the most recent novel in the series, which released in Japan in August 2019. As Deedlit explores this strange labyrinth, she’ll encounter Ghim and more of her friends and will need to navigate the maze with the help of the spirits Sylph and Salamander.
Alongside swords, knives and spears, Deedlit’s bow and arrows will play a major part of exploration, such as gimmicks which require firing arrows to proceed. Cycling through weapons to find the best one that fits the current situation will be an important part of the game.
Finally, the Steam page reveals that there won’t be any voice acting for the game, but there will be full Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese support for the text.
Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth will release on PCs via Steam Early Access on March 13, 2020.
