Out of the $100 million, $57 million comes from its domestic opening weekend. The remaining $43 million comes from the international box office. This number includes 40 offshore markets representing 60% of the overseas market. The best results from the international viewers came from Latin America and Europe. However, due to the coronavirus moviegoing is at a low in the Asia markets.

The top-10 markets for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie are: Mexico ($6.7M), the UK ($6.2M), France ($4.3M), Germany ($3.3M), Brazil ($3M), Australia ($2.8M), Spain ($2M), Italy ($1.9M), Ukraine ($1M) and Colombia ($1M).

This is also a new record for a video game adaptation. The Sonic movie topped Detective Pikachu‘s opening-weekend record of $54.3 million. According to the early estimates, Sonic topped Detective Pikachu by about 6% in its opening. Detective Pikachu earned $58 million over on a 4-day basis during a non-holiday period in May 2019, which the Sonic movie topped as well.

Additionally, it topped Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip by 95%. Sonic also bested the debuts of Peter Rabbit by 61% and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by 20%.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie released on February 14, 2020.
