On February 4, 2020, Capcom held its third-quarter investor’s meeting, where it announced the company’s consolidated results from April 2019 to December 2019. While the sales figures dropped 13.6% from 2019, the operations profits soared 37.1% compared to last year. Ordinary profits rose 38.1%. It led to an overall net earnings increase of 42.3%. Capcom’s operating income rose 30.1% compared to the previous year. While there was a drop in sales figures, this was due to an increase in digital sales ratio.
As for the nine month highlights for console titles, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne topped four and a half million units as of January 28, 2020. This means that in half the month of January 2020, another 500,000 copies were sold since the previous sales milestone. Monster Hunter: World has reached a cumulative fifteen million units sold. Resident Evil 2 has sold five million units. No figures were disclosed for Devil May Cry V, but Capcom mentioned that “it performed well.” Capcom cited sales during Tokyo Game Show, Black Friday, and Christmas as reasons why sales grew for Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry V.
An investor also asked Capcom how the company will market and expand the Monster Hunter brand going forward. Capcom answered that, while Iceborne‘s unit sales were pushed harder by Western sales more than they expected, it agreed that there were points it could improve on, such as promoting more users to go from World to Iceborne and increasing gameplay motivation.
