Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe (SIEE) reportedly was visited by directors from PlayStation’s American side to announce the restructuring of several divisions on the day of the PlayStation 5 announcement, that resulted in many affected employees being either laid off or being re-interviewed.

The news comes from sources close to the situation, as reported by VGC. While PlayStation’s efforts in each region have remained mostly separate to this point, the platform is supposedly moving towards a centralized global structure with Sony Interactive Entertainment America at its helm.

The result of the restructuring is that the European (and possibly other) branches of SIE are now following orders from SIEA, and that supposedly this will be more prevalent during the PS5 generation. This is to the point where the PS5’s reveal via Wired was not even known by the European side until it occurred. (The Japanese side did, though) The layoffs this week follow a “significant” number of layoffs over the past year across various European divisions, including marketing and PR.

Sony declined to comment when contacted by VGC.
