Details on Sega’s latest Sega Ages release were revealed this week, focusing on the gem puzzler Columns II. The game did not get a concrete release date, but a slightly more concrete “in the near future”. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
Columns II is a stage-based puzzle game where you must clear columns of gems by lining up 3 or more of the same type of jewel horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. There is also a two-player versus mode based around connecting combos, which raises the bottom of the opposing player’s screen upwards.
This Nintendo Switch upgraded release includes new difficulty options, online VS options and rankings. For local play, a new option that turns Player 2’s screen 180 degrees so the other person can sitting opposite of you in Tabletop Mode has also been added.
As the name suggests, new mode Endless Columns presents a bit of a different challenge than the other modes, being that new lines of gems will periodically appear from the bottom of the player box. Using the flashing jewels, players can remove all same-type jewels at once.
Finally, the entirely of the original Columns is being included for free with Sega Ages Columns II. This port of Columns was previously also included in Yakuza 0.
Sega Ages Columns II is set to join Nintendo Switch eShop “in the near future”.
