The mega-blockbuster film Avengers: Endgame topped the weekend box office for a third week in a row, but Pokémon: Detective Pikachu followed its tracks very closely at #2 in its opening weekend. [Thanks, Box Office Mojo.]
Detective Pikachu opened with a big $58 million this past weekend, just a few million shy of Avengers: Endgame’s $63 million in its third weekend. On the international stage, the Detective Pikachu film earned an estimate of about $103 million worldwide. Last weekend the film opened in Japan where it brought in close to $13 million. The film performed well in its opening weekend overseas in China ($41 million), UK ($6.6m), Germany ($5m), Mexico ($4.97m), France ($4.8m), Australia ($3.5m), South Korea ($3.2m), Italy ($2.8m), Spain ($2.2m), Indonesia ($2.14m), and Taiwan ($2.06m).
