Characters
Merurulince “Meruru” Rede Arls (CV: Satomi Akesaka)
The former princess of Arls. In Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland, she worked hard learning alchemy in order to make Arls Kingdom a worthy place for its merger with the Arland Republic. Now that her duty is over, she’s been traveling all over. She’s always had a childlike enthusiasm to her, and now that she no longer has princess duties, that part of her is even more apparent.
Keina Swaya (CV: Yuki Iwabuchi)
Meruru’s childhood friend and former caretaker. Now Keina is now working at the town hall as a government official, but rumor goes that her battle skills from when she was a caretaker are as sharp as ever. She’s a capable person who works hard in order to make Arls a better place together with Meruru.
Benon Armster (CV: Kenjiro Tsuda)
The director of the Armster orphanage, who’s looked up to by the children there. He’s often burned out from all the work he handles, and gets scolded by Lulua and Eva whenever he does so. He used to have a different profession before becoming the director.
Story
A shadow cast over Lulua
Even the famed alchemist Totori has never heard of, and is unable to decipher the mysterious Alchemy Riddle that Lulua can read. It has helped Lulua grow as an alchemist by leaps and bounds, but Totori gives a warning not to over-rely on the book as a crutch.
Lulua’s determination to make up for what she lacks
One day, Lulua becomes unable to read the Alchemy Riddle. In order to uncode the mysteries behind the book, she sets off on a journey with her companions.
Character events
There are various character events that can occur with your companions outside the main story, accessed by becoming closer to them. With the shortcut commands in town, you can immediately see where events take place as they show up with a star icon.
Character info and playstyle
Lulua
Bright and quick to get close to others, Lulua loves her mother but feels pressure not to hurt Rorona’s reputation. In battle, she’s physically weak but can heal ally HP and MP, as well as use items as an alchemist.
Eva
Eva sticks close to Lulua, and while she’s something of a saint, she shows a hidden side when with Lulua. In battle, she has a skill that can change between single-target and AoE damage.
Aurel
A prodigious swordsman who doesn’t seem satisfied with just that. What’s his deal? Also, his last name, ‘Arland’, is quite curious as well. In battle, he’s quick with his sword skills, and in the rear, he’s able to play generalist with healing skills.
Piana
Lulua’s reliable mentor, who watches over her apprentice’s growth with a bit of a mischievous streak. Just like Lulua, she’s an alchemist who can use items in battle. When she’s in the front, she can inflict status effects alongside dealing damage.
Primal Arts
By increasing the bonds between characters, they can use Primal Arts that are available between certain character combinations.
Lulua and Nico’s Primal Art ‘Muscle & Slender’ shortens the waiting time between turns if the characters take damage.
Piana and Lulua can use the Primal Art ‘Mentor & Apprentice’s Power’ when they’re both at the front. Not only does it lower the stun value when taking damage, it lowers the waiting time until the next turn if items are used.
Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland releases for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on May 21, 2019 in North America and May 24 in Europe. A demo is also included in this week’s issue of Famitsu.
