It was revealed during the Direct today that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will have Battlefield, Big Battlefield, Final Destination, and 100 other stages from various series, as well as roughly 900 music tracks to go alongside them.
Various stages have been remastered into HD graphics, many for the first time, but Sakurai mentioned that the development team decided to focus on a nostalgic polygonal look for stages returning from the original N64 Super Smash Bros. Every stage will be available from the beginning.
The stage hazard toggle was shown off during the Direct as well. It turns off any environmental changes and any enemy hazards.
There is a new ‘Stage Morph toggle option, where you can pick two different stages to play on, and it will morph in-between them. This can be set to change randomly, or at 1 minute intervals.
As has become series tradition, the My Music feature is making a return, where players can choose how likely songs will appear. However, instead of separating it by stage, tracks are organized by entire series, such as by The Legend of Zelda series.
There are roughly 800 tracks that players can listen to in-game, but including sound effects and fanfares, there are around 900 tracks, equalling up to 28 hours of non-stop music. There will be a sound test mode, and you can separate tracks by series. You can also create your own playlists.
You can also listen to the music with the Nintendo Switch in Sleep Mode when you toggle the Sleep Mode button in the Sound Test mode. This was originally a function added for the Nintendo 3DS game, and makes a return in Ultimate.
