An experiment gone awry causes dreams and nightmares to manifest whether the dreamer is awake or asleep, causing catastrophic damage to their sanity (and to the physical well-being of whoever is nearby when they hallucinate) in horror adventure game The Long Reach.
The Long Reach takes players to a seemingly normal New Hampshire town, Baervox, leaving them to explore its ordinary places as reality starts to grow a bit more dangerous. Players are free to explore some places and meet the people of this town, but something seems to be going wrong due to the experiment’s effects, and players will have difficulty knowing when something dangerous will rear its head. Whether it is real or a hallucination, these creatures that appear will require the player find a way to get around them or run for their lives to keep from joining the many bloody smears throughout the game.
The Long Reach, with its focus on unsettled sanities, aims to mess with the player directly, shifting visuals and situations due to the effects of the experiment. Events and locations can shift without any notice, so players will want to work quickly to collect the items they need to solve the game’s puzzles and escape alive. With dreams and nightmares appearing with no warning, though, that may provide a challenge for many.
The Long Reach is available now on Steam.
