Last week, Japan finally got Monster Hunter for Nintendo Switch with Monster Hunter XX Nintendo Switch Ver., as well as Megadimension Neptunia VIIR, Yomawari: Midnight Shadows, One Piece: Unlimited World R Deluxe Edition, and The Lost Child. Japanese sales tracker Media Create shared the latest on software and hardware sales data from the week of August 21 through August 27, 2017.

#1 of the week goes to Monster Hunter XX Nintendo Switch Ver. with 84,277 units. It is the lowest we’ve seen from any Monster Hunter game in recent history, with about only 10% of the debuting sales from the 3DS version’s 848,467 units. We previously went into detail as to why Monster Hunter XX saw a drop from the average Monster Hunter game, and the result was more or less expected considering that it’s basically the exact same game that released less than half a year ago. The game might see some continued sales being the only hunting game for Switch, but it is becoming more and more apparent that most fans of the series are already looking to jump into Monster Hunter: World or something else that is actually new.

At #2 we have Splatoon 2 with 54,443 units sold, putting it past the 1 million milestone in retail sales. The Switch shooter managed to overtake both versions of Dragon Quest XI. If you guys remember how well the original Splatoon did in the long run for Wii U in Japan, it shouldn’t come off as a big surprise, as it will likely continue selling well for the coming months. If Dragon Quest is made for winning the sprint with a big burst of sales, Splatoon is all about the marathon with consistency.

Dragon Quest XI still managed to chart #3 and #4 with the 3DS version selling 30,146 copies and the PS4 version with 22,600 copies for a total of 2,985,469 units LTD, just shy of the 3 million milestone it’ll be hitting next week.

Megadimension Neptune VIIR debuted with 15,775 units on PS4 for #5 and that’s not bad considering the original game sold 22,609 copies in its debut for PS4, and this one is more or less the same with added VR elements. Yomawari: Midnight Shadows charted at #8 and #9 with 8,255 units sold on PS Vita and 8,066 units sold on PS4 for a total of 16,321 copies, a drop from the 22,272 copies the first Yomawari sold on the PS Vita alone.

One Piece: Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition on Switch sold 4,652 units to chart at #12, another massive drop from the original 3DS game that sold 83,605 units in its own debut. It seems like the same issue with Monster Hunter XX on Switch applies here. And lastly, we have The Lost Child at #17 for PS Vita with 3,658 units sold and #18 on PS4 with 3,441 units sold, a huge disappointment for Kadokawa Games and the makers of El Shaddai: Ascension.

On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch saw another boost in sales going up 69,654 units compared to the previous week’s 22,277. It’s safe to assume that Nintendo was able to rev up the stock for the release of Monster Hunter XX. Going by Media Create’s numbers, the Nintendo Switch has now surpassed the 1.5 million milestone with 1,526,961 units sold to date in Japan since its launch in March. All other consoles saw major to minor declines in sales numbers.
