Widower’s Sky casts a father, son, and dog out onto a strange, shifting alien world, having them hunt for food to keep their child safe as the beautiful environments continually change around them.
The group is searching for a way home, and the only way to make it there is through a series of portals that lie in the planet’s huge landscapes. Players have no idea where these portals will take them, dropping them in various giant structures and open plains as they seek the one gate that will end their journey.
Food will be important to find along the way. Players can hunt the various animals that roam the game’s world, taking them down with the father’s bow. However, not every animal is docile on this world, so players will need to watch to ensure they are not being hunted as well.
When food is less of an issue, the trio will have to solve puzzles to move through the game’s environments, as well as do some platforming to get through the varied structures and mountains that lie in their path. As they do so, the game will encourage them to take in the broad, striking vistas that lay before them, enjoying the view before deadlier threats come to find them.
Widower’s Sky is set to release in the first half of this year, and is currently raising Greenlight votes for a Steam release.
