Super Mario Run Stumbles From Its Previous Spot As Highest-Grossing App In Any Country

Nintendo’s latest mobile endeavor, Super Mario Run, started off strong on its first day of release, grossing roughly $5 million in its first 24 hours and achieving the title of highest-grossing app in 80 countries. However, based on data gathered by App Annie, Bloomberg reports that the side-scrolling autorunner has fallen from that top spot.

It could be that the game’s pricing structure is in part to blame for this stumble in sales, with Super Mario Run requiring a $10 purchase to be able to enjoy all that the title has to offer. Apptopia suggests that, if Nintendo were to lower that price point to $2, they would see the app gross roughly $50 million for this month instead of the current $30 million.

However, despite this recent drop, Super Mario Run still remains the top-downloaded free app in 88 countries as of right now, and it is likely to get a boost in sales when the app releases for Android next year.

Super Mario Run is available for iOS devices and will release for Android sometime in 2017.
