Cyberpunk Loses Its Mind In The Upcoming Void & Meddler

Recommended Videos

Void & Meddler is a combination of non-linear adventure game and a surreal trip through an undefined cyberpunk city. Its world is one in which people are apparently used to taking hormone drugs and collecting false memories. “This make it easier to change their life and become the person they want to be,” according to the game’s creators.

You play as Fyn, and enter a “deep trip” inside her “mazelike mind.” It’s clear that she’s supposed to be confused, stuck between memories that may or may not be hers, and unsure of who she is and what she’s heading towards.  The story, which the creators describe as being “totally f*cked up,” is said to be a mix of a roadtrip, the ‘80s, and synthpop.

The story is deliberately being kept vague as it’s the main sticking point of the game so spoilers are easy to come by. But if it’s any comfort, know that Mi-Clos Studio is publishing Void & Meddler, who previously released its procedural space trip Out There to acclaim. So it should be in good hands.

What we do know for certain is that the whole adventure will be comprised of six acts spread across three episodes. And each act can end in different ways depending on how you solve puzzles and which direction you take the story in. We also know that the game’s atmosphere is a combination of classic cyberpunk literature, including authors such as Philip.K.Dick, William Gibson, David Cronenberg, Shinya Tsukamoto, and Gregg Araki.

So Void & Meddler should be of interest to anyone into their cyberpunk. It certainly as plenty of style as evidenced in the game’s trailer above. If you’re daring enough, you can pre-order Void & Meddler on its website right now. It’s due out for Windows and Mac starting October 2015.
