Matt Makes Games’ Dark World Expansion for its multiplayer archery combat game TowerFall Ascension was released PlayStation 4 and PC on May 12th. It costs $9.99. The studio also announced that the PS Vita version of the game is still being worked on.
The studio describes the DLC as “huge,” it adding the potential for a lot of tricks and tactics to outsmart your opponents with when battling it out in the tight arenas. It brings with it four level sets, 10 new archers, procedurally generated levels, a new co-op mode, boss battles, and new power-ups.
“One of my favorite additions are the new Trigger Arrows,” said the game’s designer Matt Thorson, “a powerup that makes your projectiles behave like remote-detonated mines. Plant them in walls or ceilings, wait for an unsuspecting enemy to run by, and send her to a fiery grave.”
The new co-op mode is a highlight too, as it lets up to four of you battle your way through the Dark World (an improvement over the older two-play Quest Mode), able to now revive each other should you fall, which means the bosses at the end of each portal can be tougher.
And, as Siliconera previously covered, the new characters include one based on Feminist Frequency’s Anita Sarkeesian and another that riffs on the look of Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
