The team behind the arcade racer Drift Stage has released an early alpha demo for Windows, Mac, and Linux on itch.io. It’s meant as a teaser before the game’s Kickstarter is launched soon.
It only gives you one time trial stage to complete but there are three ghosts for you to beat around the track, at least. These three ghosts represent the game’s three difficulties: novice, intermediate, expert. You can also race against a ghost representing your personal best time.
When playing the demo do bear in mind that it’s in its early alpha stage and, as such, everything from the music to the game modes are subject to change. For instance, the boost function has been disabled in this demo but will be a feature in the final game.
Drift Stage is an arcade racer that’s meant as an homage to the classics of its genre, particularly Yu Suzuki’s games in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s including Virtua Racer, Daytona USA, and the OutRun.
As well as a single player mode, the final version of Drift Stage will have a split-screen multiplayer mode. It will be released on PC, and maybe consoles and perhaps mobile platforms as well. You can find out more about it on its website.
