Last week saw the release of the cloud-streaming Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest X in Japan, which sold 52,375 at launch. As reported last night, the game was sold out in its first week, which isn’t surprising, considering Square Enix appear to have been conservative with their first shipment.

Unfortunately, it looks as though we won’t get to see just how successful Dragon Quest X on 3DS could have been in the near future, as Square Enix halted shipments of the game this week, due to technical issues. Perhaps future reports from the company will indicate how the 3DS version has performed.

Also released in Japan last week was the Xbox One and a bunch of games. The console itself sold 25,674 units in its first week. Considering that Microsoft consoles have historically been niche products in Japan, this isn’t very surprising, especially since the Xbox One launch didn’t include any software that could be considered popular in Japan.

Next week: Come back to see how Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS did. The game launches in Japan this Saturday, and it should be interesting to see how the very first portable iteration of the series does.
