You might scoff at the idea, but Bandai Namco’s only major Ridge Racer game at the moment is a free-to-play title exclusive to smartphones. It isn’t on console, it isn’t on PC (in fact, the PC game has been cancelled), and it’s actually a lot of fun.
Ridge Racer Slipstream was released in 2013 for iOS and Android devices, and since then, through a constant series of improvements, the game has gone on to become a very fun racing game—one of the rare few on smartphones that actually manages to get touch screen controls just right by emulating a traditional D-Pad setup.
This week, Bandai Namco announced that the iOS version of the game is being updated with four new cars, two new tracks and new challenges.
The four new cars are: Kamata Synci and RC410, and the Lucky Wild Evolver and Soldat Rauna. Meanwhile, the two new tracks are the Seacrest District and Surfside Resort. Finally, the new challenges include the new Masters’ Class 1 career mode challenges, races and battles.
Presumably, these updates will be released for Android devices at some point as well, but Bandai Namco have not announced a timeframe for the Android update.
