Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs was the best-selling game in the U.S. during the month of May. The game launched on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and took the #1 spot on the top-ten software sales chart for the month. Following close behind it at #2 was Mario Kart 8 for the Wii.
Other new games that made it into the top-ten were Wolfenstein: The New Order and Kirby: Triple Deluxe, and alongside Watch Dogs and Mario Kart, contributed to an 800% increase in dollar sales over May 2013.

On the hardware front, the PlayStation 4 was the best-selling hardware for the month. The NPD Group also pointed out that the Wii U and PS Vita say an increase in sales compared to May 2013, owing to Mario Kart 8 and Borderlands 2 bundles respectively.
Meanwhile, accessory sales contributed to consumer spending during May as well. Accessory sales saw a 15% increase compared to May 2013, due to “the continued success of Video Game Point and Subscription Cards, Interactive Gaming Toys, and Gamepads,” according to the NPD Group.
