Microsoft’s Xbox chief Phil Spencer says he plans on bringing the company’s PC gaming focus back.
Over Twitter, Spencer stated in reply to a user: “I agree that MS needs to up our gaming presence on Windows. Part of my XBOX role is to bring back our Windows gaming focus.”
Microsoft recently acquired the Rise of Nations I.P. and released the game on Steam. The same user asked Spencer why the company acquired the franchise and released it only via Steam.
To this, Spencer replied: “Steam is a great place to sell Win32 games. We acquired the IP for future work, I’m a big fan of the franchise.”
Last year, Microsoft hired ex-Valve veteran Jason Holtman to help flesh Windows out as a gaming platform. Unfortunately, Holtman left the company earlier this year. Whether or not his position was replaced has not been announced as yet.
Phil Spencer made similar comments to the ones on Twitter back in March. Speaking at GDC, he stated: “A renewed focus on Windows and PC gaming inside Microsoft is definitely happening. You will see more focus from us — not to go compete with what Valve has done, but because we also understand as the platform holder it’s important for us to invest in the platform in a real way.”
