image Keiji Inafune moved of from Capcom years ago so he doesn’t have a say in the future of Mega Man. However, Inafune and Comcept can make spiritual successors like J.J. Rockets where you play as the American President who stomps mutants in his spare time.

Comcept, Mega Man 9 developer Inti Creates, and localization studio 8-4 are teaming up to create The Mighty No. 9. In this game you play as Beck who gains different powers and the ability to transform after defeating bosses. Beck, of course, has a sister and her name is Call. Beck and Call, get it? While the screenshots you may may have seen are of 2D hand drawn art, The Mighty No. 9 is actually a 2.5D game.

The Mighty No. 9 brings back many former Mega Man staff including Manami Matsumae who made music for the first Mega Man game, Naoya Tomita who was a level designer on the original Mega Man games and Shinsuke Komaki, an illustrator that worked on Mega Man: Battle Network and the unreleased Mega Man Legends 3.

The Mighty No.9 is in development for PC and a Kickstarter campaign just launched. If stretch goals are met, the The Mighty No. 9 will be released for consoles too. The game is slated for release in spring 2015.
