It looks like Athena and Apollo will be lending quite the hand in solving Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies cases. Athena’s Mood Matrix will come in handy for reading emotions, but not all emotions are stable and easy to read. Meanwhile, Apollo will be using his deduction skills in solving a crime that hits the youkai enthusiast village he was dragged to by Trucy.

Athena Cykes will be using her necklace device called the Mood Matrix to examine witnesses’ emotions to help solving cases. Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies’ official website gives us a look at more Mood Matrix features. In the latest update, Capcom shows it being used to help solve the case surrounding the death of a youkai enthusiast village’s mayor.

Athena’s Mood Matrix relies on reading people’s emotions, but when they’re overwhelmed by emotions such as fear, their memories tend to get mixed up with emotions, making it harder to find the truth.

When Trucy’s friend Yumemi Tenma is called upon to testify on the case of the mayor’s death, the Mood Matrix picks up a bunch of youkai spirits, which are clogging up her memories. This is in face due to the fact that the young girl strongly fears ghosts and other spiritual phenomenon (which would explain the poor girl’s appearance having to live in a “Youkai Village”).

Your objective using the Mood Matrix will be to find which youkai seems to be bringing out the most fear in Yumemi. In this case, it seems to be a cat monster riding on what looks like a flaming wheel.

Apparently, that flaming wheel was actually a chandelier that was an important key to solving the case. By getting a closer look at the witnesses’ emotions using the Mood Matrix, you’ll be able to work your way to finding the truth, one step at a time.

Apollo Justice’s ability is called the “Thought Route”. This feature is similar to the Logic feature seen in Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, where players were able to look at the known facts and reach a conclusion.

The Thought Route will be used towards the end, when Apollo is just a step away from finishing the trial, but can’t seem to put the nail in the coffin, yet.

By looking back at facts, Apollo will be able to deduce a series of paths accordingly. You’ll see several choices from facts that were revealed to related key items. As you make your choice, you’ll advance to the next branch of deduction until everything becomes clear.

The Thought Route has multiple routes that must be deduced to find the one truth. Even if you make a mistake, you’ll still be able to try it over, as many times until you figure it out. This feature will come in handy in the final moments of cases when the end is just a fingertip away.

Capcom also gave us a peek a the third chapter, which is set in the middle of a school festival. Not much has been revealed regarding the scenario, but we’ll be finding out more soon.

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies is slated for release on July 25th in Japan and this Fall in the West on Nintendo 3DS. You can get a look at some of the game’s English screenshots in our recent report.
