What Are The Most Popular Monster Hunter Weapons?

Recommended Videos

Monster Hunter is one of Japan’s most popular games and is played by an incredibly wide range of people. One of the reasons for its immense popularity is the social aspect. Monster Hunter made its name on cooperative multiplayer and going hunting with allies by your side is one of its strongest appeals.

The other reason is the customization. The game has a wide variety of weapon classes and skills that you can outfit your character with, and they have a considerable effect on how one approaches combat in the game. For example, the Sword & Shield class is for those that prefer quick attacks while heavier weapon classes like the Great Sword and Long Sword are more dependent on opportune timing. This means that there’s something for everyone’s preferred style.

That said, the Long Sword and Great Sword are among the more popular weapons in Japan, Monster Hunter producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto, tells us.

“In terms of weapons, the Long Sword and the Great Sword are among the most popular armaments,” Tsujimoto shared with Siliconera, when we had a chance to ask him about weapon trends in the Monster Hunter community.

He continued: “The Dual Blades have always been a popular weapon for female gamers, and this has not changed in the past few years. One of the charms of the Dual Blades is that there is less of a focus on defending, and more on the beautiful attacks that can be performed, which is why female gamers might find it more appealing.”

Thus, when developing weapons, what it comes down to for the devteam, Tsujimoto says, is to allow for as much choice for players as possible.

“With regards to weapon and armor design, we always strive for the greatest amount of variation possible,” Tsujimoto shared. “We realize that each player has their own preferences when it comes to these kinds of choices, so be it cool, cute, or comical; we try to put in as much choice as possible for users to enjoy.”
