Now that Final Fantasy IV DS has been ported to iOS, it’s time for the next game—Final Fantasy V. But wait! There is no 3D remake of Final Fantasy V yet. Regardless, Square have teased an iOS version of Final Fantasy V “and more” in this trailer for FFIV:
So, what’s the deal? Are Square going to port an older version of Final Fantasy V to iOS devices? Or is the remake headed straight to iOS instead of being developed for a dedicated gaming portable device first?
When we last asked Square Enix about remakes of Final Fantasy V and VI back in 2010, Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto shared with us that the company was taking a wait and see approach.
“As you saw from Nintendo’s press conference yesterday, there is new hardware coming out,” Hashimoto said to us after the Nintendo 3DS reveal. “We knew that was coming. We had to make decisions understanding that there were hardware changes in the near future and where want to put our resources.”
When we asked if that meant remakes of Final Fantasy V and VI were headed to the Nintendo 3DS, Hashimoto laughed and replied: “No decision has been made. Rather than creating [Final Fantasy] V or VI for the current DS we want to take a look to see how 3DS does, how it evolves, and then make a decision.”
