PlatinumGames and Kojima Productions often butt heads over the development of stylish action game, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the gameā€™s creative producer, Yuji Korekado, tells Edge magazine.

“PlatinumGames is a studio that’s very similar to Kojima Productions in that they have a very specific belief towards their game creating,” Korekado shared with Edge in an interview. “They have things that they don’t want to change, that they really believe in. At Kojima Productions we have the same strong feelings toward creating a better game.”

Due to this, the two companiesā€”both used to being granted freedom over their projectsā€”tend to clash regarding the gameā€™s direction.

Korekado provides two examples. The first difference in opinion was over the gameā€™s setting. Kojima Productions originally wanted the game to take place between Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4. Platinum argued that setting it within this strict period this would only place restrictions on them, and now, the game it set after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4.

Another KojiPro vs. Platinum clash was between the gameā€™s writer, Etsu Tamari, and director, Kenji Saito.

“We put them in a room for three continuous days, and they discussed from morning til night what the writer wanted to create for a story and what the game director wanted to create as a game,” Korekado recalls. “And after those three days, it seemed like they had been good friends for a very long time. So we sorted that.”

However, Korekado says, this difference in opinion is going to result in a better game. He argues: ā€œWhen we collide, we can usually see what is good and what is bad in each other’s ideas. And it helps us make something better.ā€

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is scheduled for release on February 19th, 2013 in North America. More information on the game will be made available at the Tokyo Game Show in September.
