Back in January, Higurashi When they Cry creator, Ryukishi07, announced his next project, titled Rose Guns Days, which he subsequently released earlier this month. The game is set in the year 1947.

Anime News Network report that Rose Guns Days’ story takes place in Japan following World War II. In the face of their defeat, the Japanese government allows America and China to divide control of the nation as it recovers from the loss of war. As a result, Japanese people are eventually a minority in their own land, outnumbered by American and Chinese immigrants.

The game’s two main characters appear to be Rose Haibara, who works a the club Primavera and lends money to people to help them rebuild their lives, and Leo Shishigami, known for his reputation among women. Rose Guns Days’ story begins in earnest when the two meet in spring 1947.

Rose Guns Days was released on August 11th in Japan, and is also getting a manga adaptation. The manga will be published in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine, and will be drawn by, Sōichirō, the same artist who worked on the Higurashi manga series. He also designed the characters for Rose Guns Days.
