<< Last week’s software sales chart
This past weekend saw the release of New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. In its first two days on shelves, the game sold 407,503 copies.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 was released on Saturday. The original New Super Mario Bros., released in May 2006 for the Nintendo DS, was released on a Thursday, just like most other games. This means it had four full days in its first week on shelves, since tracking ends on Sunday. In its first four days, it sold 899,518 copies.
Also released this past weekend was the Nintendo 3DS XL. It sold 187,480 units. Meanwhile, the regular Nintendo 3DS continued to sell with another 42,155 copies.
While New Super Mario Bros. 2 was the #1 selling game for the week, it was followed at #2 by Persona 4: Arena. We’ll have a separate follow-up article discussing the performance of this game in a little while, so look out for that.
Meanwhile, at #7 was Demon Training, Nintendo’s 3DS follow-up to the Brain Age games. That game sold 40,272 copies in its first week. In the case of Demon Training, just like the Brain Age games before it, lifetime sales are what one really needs to look out for, as these titles have a way of selling over time.
