Last night, the NPD Group released their monthly report about the top ten best-selling games in North America. For the month of May, Diablo III outsold every other game in the region, and this was without even taking its download sales into account.

While Diablo III nabbed the #1 spot for the month, Capcomā€™s Dragonā€™s Dogma was in the top-ten, too, bringing up the rear at #9. Unfortunately, it would appear that itā€™s a little too early to celebrate the gameā€™s success just yetā€”NPD shared with Eurogamer that Dragonā€™s Dogma sold just 92,000 copies in May.

Keep in mind, however, that this number only covers five days worth of sales data. NPDā€™s sales trackings for May were actually from April 29th to May 26th. Dragonā€™s Dogma was released on May 22nd.

Something that bears mentioning, however, is that the game sold over 300,000 copies in its opening week in Japan. So far, in Japan, the game has sold 419,208 copies as last week.Ā Capcom hope to sell 1.5 million copies of Dragonā€™s Dogma by the end of March 2013.

While that forecast may seem a little optimistic now, in a recent statement to investors last month, Capcom restated their pledge to continue creating new brands, despite the fact that they likely would not be hits upon initial release, due to low brand awareness.
