2KMarin won’t be the only ones putting an XCOM out in the near future.

While’s 2K’s XCOM shooter is slated for release sometime between April 2012 and March 2013, Sid Meier developer, Firaxis Games (and also a 2K subsidiary), are developing their own separate XCOM strategy title for release this year.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a turn-based strategy game that Firaxis say will remain true to the original X-COM, titled UFO: Enemy Unknown, as reported in a recent issue of Game Informer magazine.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will have a brand new story, however. The game is slated for release in fall 2012 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Meanwhile, you can read up on 2KMarin’s XCOM shooter in our lengthy interview from last year.
