Dark Souls released in Japan last week, and was met with a very warm welcome, boasting high sales of 279,567 copies in its first week.

That number is already high by itself, but Japanese sales tracker, Media-Create, report that the game sold through 90.09% of all copies shipped to Japanese stores. As a result, availability was scarce at numerous stores.

Unlike Demonā€™s Souls, which was published by Sony in Japan, Dark Souls was self-published by From Software. Namco Bandai will publish the game on October 4th in the U.S. and October 7th in Europe.
